Privacy policy on Facebook

The Soap Sisters assignment for last lecture was to talk about Privacy on Facebook. And so Alex and Lorena talked about Privacy Policy, Firas about GDPR and Denis about Privacy policy for applications on Facebook.

Alex and Lorena concluded that Facebook collects info and content the user provides, including the User's religion, political views and su on (Scary!). But hey, that is not all. They also collect info about the type of content you view or interact with and follows your activity all over the Internet, not just Facebook.

Do you know that Facebook Like button you on same pages? Well that is one way of following what does the User like and follow around the 'net.

Lastly they also collect info about Users device(s) - that is OS, hardware and software versions, battery level, signal strength and the storage space.

GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. The reason for this law is to protect the Users against stuff I just wrote above. Everyone should at least at some basic level understand what they are giving away when they sign up for Facebook or any other application.

Privacy policy for Applications on Facebook lists the rules that the Applications have to follow to be able to publish their App on the platform.

And besides that there are requirements which state that they have to list which kinds of personal data they are collecting and how that data is used in normal language that everyone can understand. They also have to inform the User when his or hers information is shared with Facebook through the use of cookies, SKDs or other local storage devices.
And lastly they have to give an option for Users to opt-out of personalized advertising.
