MOMO challenge and the different problems facets of the internet hoax
The new Momo challenge that took the internet by storm has become a subject of the international press as well. Not many realize that it started as a hoax and has been passed on on Reddit, where it exploded and hit bigger media in just two years.
The internet craze of MOMO has been since seen in different big international news mediums, where it warned parents about the negative aspects of the challenge and to keep their children away from it.
The news was just a fake blown out of proportion, with little proof that any child has been involved in such a challenge. The different aspects of the MOMO challenge, be them horror, scary or intriguing, made people talk more and more about it, without having an actual starting point to account for. The rumor was spread without a trace and people started wondering what it was.
What made it even more believable was the fact that people actually started calling and posing as MOMO. For adults, these kind of things are recognizable as fake, but for younger people, it's harder to see behind the deception and pranks of others, especially if they tend to their loved ones. What makes this kind of prank dangerous is the fact that it tries to manipulate them into harming themselves.
Even if these kind of pranks are just fakes and have no grounding and facts, they can still pose a threat to younger kids who are more influenceable.
